What to Expect on Your First Spa Visit

March 1, 2026

Relaxing massage treatment at Safe Haven Spa in Springville Utah

First-time spa visits can feel a little intimidating — especially if you’re not sure what to wear, what to say, or whether you’re doing things “right.” Here’s the short answer: there is no wrong way. Here’s everything you need to feel confident and relaxed before you even walk through our door.

Before You Arrive

Book the right service

Not sure which service to choose? Start with a classic. A Swedish massage is the perfect introduction — it’s relaxing, gentle, and adaptable to your needs. If skincare is your priority, our licensed master esthetician offers a custom facial designed specifically for your skin type. You can always call us and we’ll help you decide.

Plan to arrive a few minutes early

We recommend arriving 10–15 minutes before your scheduled appointment. This gives you time to check in, fill out a brief health intake form, and settle in without feeling rushed. Your session time begins at your appointment time — not when you check in — so arriving early means more time to relax.

What to wear

Wear comfortable clothing that’s easy to change in and out of. For massage services, you’ll undress to your comfort level in a private room and be covered with a sheet throughout your entire session. Most people undress completely, but if you’re more comfortable keeping underwear on, that is absolutely fine — just let your therapist know. For facials and other esthetic services, you’ll typically remain clothed from the shoulders down.

Hydrate and eat lightly beforehand

Drink water before your appointment — massage works better on a well-hydrated body. Avoid eating a heavy meal within an hour of your visit, as lying face-down on a full stomach is never comfortable. A light snack is perfectly fine.

When You Check In

Our front desk team will greet you warmly and walk you through a short intake form. This covers any health concerns, allergies, areas you’d like focused on, and areas to avoid. It takes just a few minutes and helps us customize your experience from the start.

Before you head back to your treatment room, your therapist or esthetician will briefly introduce themselves and ask about your goals for the session. This is a great time to mention any areas of tension, skin concerns, or anything you’re hoping to address. There are no silly questions — we want you to get exactly what you need.

During Your Service

Communication is everything

Your comfort is our top priority. If the pressure is too light or too firm, tell your therapist — they want to know. If you’re cold, there are heated blankets on every table. If you need to reposition, just say so. You won’t bother anyone. The best massage is one tailored to how you feel that day.

You don’t have to talk

Some clients love to chat, others prefer complete silence. Either is perfectly fine. Our team follows your lead. If you fall asleep — and many people do — that’s a sign you’re deeply relaxed. Your therapist will simply let you rest.

Draping and privacy

At Safe Haven, proper draping is a mandatory standard. Your therapist will only uncover the area currently being worked on and will re-drape before moving to the next area. You are always covered and always in control of your comfort level.

After Your Session

After your service, your therapist will give you a moment to return to the room and get dressed at your own pace. Take your time. You may feel deeply relaxed, a little drowsy, or emotionally light — this is all completely normal and a sign the session did its job.

  • Drink water — massage moves fluid through the body. Staying hydrated in the hours after helps your system process the session more effectively.
  • Rest if you can — if possible, avoid strenuous exercise immediately after. Give your body a few hours to integrate the work.
  • You may feel mild soreness — especially after deeper work. This is normal and typically resolves within a day or two. A warm bath can help.
  • Notice how you feel — you’ll likely notice reduced tension, better sleep, and a lighter mood in the days following your session.
